Member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG and President of the Crop Science division
Liam Condon has been a member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG since January 2016 and President of the Crop Science division since December 2012. He is also responsible for the Animal Health Business Unit.
Condon was born in Dublin, Ireland, on February 27, 1968. He studied International Business at the Dublin City University and – as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – at the Technical University of Berlin. As well as English and German, he also speaks Gaelic, French, Japanese and Mandarin (Chinese).
After graduating, Condon joined the former Schering AG and held various sales and marketing positions in the pharmaceutical business in Germany, Japan and in the Region Asia-Pacific & Middle East. In February 2005, he was appointed Managing Director of Schering in China.
Following Bayer’s acquisition of Schering in 2006, Condon was appointed as Managing Director of Bayer HealthCare and General Manager of Bayer Pharma in China until December 2009. In January 2010, Liam Condon was appointed Managing Director of Bayer HealthCare in Germany and head of Bayer Schering Pharma in Germany. In December 2012, he became Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer CropScience AG.
Since 2016 Condon is a member of the Governor’s Panel for Consumer Industries at the World Economic Forum and since September 2017 Condon is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CropLife International, the R&D based agricultural industry association.

Dr. Dirk Backhaus
Head of Product Supply
Dr. Dirk Backhaus is member of the Executive Committee of Crop Science and Head of Product Supply since January 1, 2014.
Dirk Backhaus was born in Hamm, Germany, on February 4, 1967 and graduated from RWTH Aachen with a PhD in chemistry. He started his career after - a postdoc-stint at Ohio State University - in 1997 as Lab chemist & project leader in the Central Research of Bayer AG in Leverkusen. From 2001 to 2003 he was Plant Manager at the HB-plant of Bayer CropScience in Dormagen.
He worked then as Management Support for the BCS Board Member Industrial Operations in Monheim. In 2005 he became Head of Manufacturing Asia Pacific and Head of IOP China, based in Shanghai. From 2009 to 2013 Backhaus was Head of Supply Chain Management & Strategy.

Dr. Michael Haug
Head of Human Resources
Dr. Michael Haug was appointed to the Executive Committee of Crop Science effective March 1, 2011. Since January 1, 2011, he has been working as Head of Human Resources.
Michael Haug was born in Cologne, Germany, on September 20, 1958. After graduating from the University of Cologne with a doctor’s degree in Chemistry, he began his career with Bayer in the business unit Crop Protection in 1986. He took over several tasks in research and portfolio management, before he was appointed to be responsible for the introduction of SAP in 1998.
Within the scope of the acquisition of Aventis CropScience by Bayer 2002, Dr. Haug accounted for the IT unit of the newly built-up subgroup Bayer CropScience. Four years later, he took over the management of the corporate project "Transforming Human Resources" by which Bayer gave its HR department and its staff a new direction. From 2006 to 2010 is headed the Center of Expertise for Executive Management.

Dr. Mathias Kremer
Head of Strategy & Portfolio Management
Dr. Mathias Kremer, born on August 21, 1962 in Bolzano, Italy, joined Bayer in 1990, after studying Agricultural Engineering at Soest College, Agricultural Science at the University of Göttingen, and after completing a PhD in Phytopathology at the University of Munich, all in Germany.
He spent 10 years in Product Development – first as a product manager in insecticides in Monheim, Germany, then as a trial manager in Spain and as a Group Leader in herbicides back in Monheim. After the merger of Bayer and Aventis, he later led the integration of the Agronomic Development organization of Bayer CropScience. In 2002, he joined Bayer AG’s Strategic Planning team in Leverkusen, Germany.
He returned to Monheim in 2005 where he served two years as a consultant and assistant to the former Bayer CropScience CEO, Friedrich Berschauer. In 2007, he embarked on a new adventure in Central America and the Caribbean where he took on the role of Regional Manager for Bayer CropScience and became beginning of 2008 also President & CEO (Country Speaker) of the Bayer Group in Central America and the Caribbean. In July 2011, he became the Global Head of Seeds (former BioScience), Agricultural Commercial Operations (ACO), Bayer CropScience. In June 2013, he became head of the unit ‘Strategy’. Since June 1, 2015 he leads the unit ‘Strategy & Portfolio Management’. In this function Mathias Kremer is a member of the Crop Science Executive Committee.

Head of Business Affairs & Communications, Member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science division, Member of the Board of Management of Bayer Crop Science AG and Labor Director
Bernd Naaf is Head of Business Affairs & Communications, member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science division and Member of the Board of Management of Bayer Crop Science AG. He has been active in this role since June 2015. Additionally, he was appointed Labor Director in January 2014.
Bernd Naaf was born in Leverkusen, Germany on March 31, 1959 and began his career with Bayer in 1978, when he joined Bayer AG’s Commercial Training Program (Wirtschaftsassistent). Thereafter he held a number of positions in Sales and Marketing before he was appointed as General Manager for the Bayer Crop Protection business UK and Ireland in 1991.
Four years later he moved back to headquarters to become Head of Business Planning and Administration. In 1998 Naaf moved to the Animal Health Business Group to take on the responsibility for Global Marketing. After Bayer CropScience’s acquisition of Aventis CropScience he was appointed as Senior Vice President of the Bayer CropScience Business Operations in the United States of America in January 2003. In October 2004, Bernd Naaf became Regional Head for the Crop Protection business Asia Pacific based in Singapore. In August 2011, he moved to Lyon to take over the postion as Regional Head for Crop Protection Europe/Middle East/Africa. From January 2014 to May 2015, he was Head of Business Management.

Head of Research & Development
Adrian Percy, born on May 13, 1965 in Hertford, United Kingdom, most recently had responsibility for regulatory affairs activities across the Bayer CropScience technology platforms, including Seeds & Traits, Crop Protection and Environmental Science globally. He began his career in 1991 as a Toxicologist with Rhone-Poulenc in France. Since then, he has held numerous positions in the Research and Development departments of Crop Science and its legacy companies in France, Germany and the USA.
Adrian Percy grew up and studied in the United Kingdom earning a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology at the University of Liverpool, a Master’s degree in Toxicology and then a doctorate in Biochemistry at the University of Birmingham.

Head of Agricultural Commercial Operation
Marc Reichardt is Member of the Executive Committee of Crop Science and since January 2014 Head of Commercial Operations.
Marc Reichardt was born in Barcelona, Spain, on June 8, 1962. He studied technical agricultural engineering in Barcelona, Spain, where he was awarded his Master’s degree in 1985. He joined Bayer in the same year, starting his career as a sales representative at Bayer Hispania S.A., Barcelona, before being appointed Regional Manager for Spain. In 1992 he moved to Warsaw as Country Manager of Bayer Poland.
In 1996, he transferred to Bayer AG, Monheim, Germany, as Product Manager for rice herbicides. In 1999 he was nominated as Head of Bayer CropScience ConoSur based in Argentina. In April 2003 he was nominated as Head of Brazil and Mercosur Region at the Crop Protection Business Group. Marc Reichardt was appointed to the Executive Committee of Bayer CropScience as Head of the Business Operations unit Crop Protection Latin America effective April 1, 2006.

Dr. Jacqueline M. Applegate
Head of Environmental Science Business Operations Unit and member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science division
Jacqueline Applegate has been Head of Environmental Science Business Operations Unit and a member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science division since April 1, 2015.
Jacqueline Applegate was born in Union, Ohio, USA, on December 12, 1965. She studied in the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Wright State University, a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from Iowa State University, and then a Master of Business Administration at Rockhurst University, Executive Fellows Program.
Over the past 25 years, Jacqueline has held positions of increasing responsibility with Bayer, particularly in the Bayer CropScience subgroup, in North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific. She began her career in 1992 as a Process Development Chemist in Product Supply, Kansas City, Missouri, USA. She moved to Monheim, Germany, in 1998 to assume the position of Global Project Manager and was appointed Head of Global Project Management in 2002. In 2005, Jacqueline joined Bayer CropScience’s Environmental Science Business Operations unit as Head of Global Portfolio Management located in Lyon, France. She assumed the position of President of Bayer Advanced Consumer Lawn & Garden USA in September 2007, and was appointed President of Environmental Science North America in 2010. In 2013, Jacqueline Applegate became the Bayer Corporate Senior Representative of Australia and New Zealand as well as Chair and Managing Director of Bayer CropScience in these countries.Close Curriculum Vitae
Michael A. Schulz
Chief Financial Officer
Michael Schulz is a member of the Executive Committee of Crop Science. As the company’s Chief Financial Officer he is responsible for Business Planning & Administration since July, 1, 2011.
Michael Schulz, born on March 3, 1965 in Mannheim, Germany, started his professional career in commercial banking. He graduated from Mannheim University after studying Economics and Business Administration. From 1992 to 2000 Michael Schulz worked with Gemini Consulting on a variety of assignments in the Consumer Goods and Health industries. In 2001 he joined Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in the U.S. where he led the Life Sciences Strategy practice working for major industry clients.
In 2006 he joined Bayer AG Corporate Development being responsible for Bayer HealthCare Strategy. Since December 2007 Michael Schulz was responsible for Business Planning & Administration of Bayer HealthCare’s Animal Health Division in Monheim.Close Curriculum Vitae
Member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science Division and Integration Lead
Martin Dawkins is member of the Executive Committee of the Crop Science Division and Integration Lead, focusing on the Post Merger Integration of Monsanto.
Martin was born in 1960 in Bristol, England and studied at the University of West of England, and Basingstoke College of Higher Education.
He joined Bayer in 1986 in Medical Sales moving to the USA in 1994 and then taking up various executive Healthcare positions in Japan, Scandinavia, USA and Germany. In 2006 Martin returned again to the UK, where he was the Head of the Pharmaceutical Business and Senior Executive for the Bayer Region, UK and Ireland. Most recently, he was Head of Region, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Crop Protection in Lyon, France.
Martin remains active outside of the work and travel commitments by continuing to play a little golf and squash.Close Curriculum Vitae
Lead for the Pre-Merger Planning
Frank Terhorst has worked in the agriculture industry for over 20 years with experience in crop strategy, crop protection, strategic business initiatives, business modeling, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, lifecycle crop management, and fruit and vegetables business strategy.
He began his career in Crop Protection in Germany and has held various positions in global portfolio management, marketing and controlling, management support and Managing Director/Country Head when also based in the Netherlands and Italy. In 2011 he held the position of Head of Strategy for Fruits and Vegetables and Insecticides in Germany until his current job as Global Head of Seeds.
Frank speaks five languages German, English, Italian, Dutch and conversational Spanish. He is a graduate of Wirtschaftsassist (akin to a B.A. in Economics).

Dr. Lars Benecke
Head of Law, Patents & Compliance
Dr. Lars Benecke will take over the lead of Law, Patents & Compliance of the Division Crop Science from October 1, 2016 and will then become a member of the Executive Committee.
Dr. Lars Benecke was born in Munich, Germany, in 1962. After studying Law at the universities in Cologne, Lausanne and Florence, he started his business career as lawyer in Dusseldorf and as legal consultant in the Federal Ministry of Economics Germany in Bonn. In March 1997 he joined Bayer AG in Leverkusen where he worked as Senior Legal Counsel – part-time also as assistant for the former CFO.
In the course of the reorganization of Bayer AG Dr. Benecke took over in 2002 the lead of the Law, Patents & Compliance department of Bayer Material Science AG.
In 2008 Dr. Benecke relocated to Bayer Corporation in Pittsburgh, USA, where he – before he was licensed to practice law in the US – took over administrative tasks. He then headed Law, Patents & Compliance as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer until July 2016.
